I'm sick of seeing girls wearing next-to-nothing. Obviously they do it for one reason...so they can get attention, mainly from guys. Everything seems to be promoting sex in today's culture and I'm freakin' fed up with it. It's everywhere...tv, magazines, ads, walking down the street, etc. I do try my best to dress modestly...yeah, my clothes fit me but I try not to wear stuff too tight, too low, etc. It's tough sometimes when it seems like guys are really interested in the girls that dress trashy. But I know there are some guys out there who appreciate girls for being modest. I want guys to like me for my personality and what's inside...NOT for my body. Personality is what really counts. So I don't see a good reason for me to dress like a *ahem* slut when I don't want to attract the kind of guy who likes that kinda thing... So what's everyone else's input?

Well, guys that like girls that dress 'trashy' usually just want one thing, and I think we know what that all is...
Naturally as a human being I can be shallow, but I really do try my best not to be. That isn't to say certain girls aren't pleasing to the eye, but based on their actions I do my best to just...not talk to them.
But I understand where you're coming from Ash and it's good you notice these things and take them to heart. I'm sure many girls notice them and simply choose to conform for some reason.
Oh well. People these days, I suppose...

Some might disagree with me on this, but...
There are certain companies that absolutely can't stand, and I don't know why. Two of these are Abercrombie and Hollister. I hate what they stand for. The pretty much make teens think, hey where this and hot guys/girls will like you and want to love you forever on the beaches of California. I'm sorry, just venting, like Ash. Those companies just disgust me.
And another reason (a much bigger one)...they produce their products in a foreign country, and under pay their workers, then sell them here for ridiculous prices. And people buy into it. I almost feel sorry for them.

I agree with you all. What is the point of wearing next to nothin?
But another thing that bothers me is people who swear. Those words are useless to the conversation. What is the point of saying them?
Unless you are referring to a donkey or a butt
But I noticed noone uses those words in those ways

Sometimes I swear without thinking about it at all. I think the reason is because it puts a lot more emphasis on what you're saying, and makes people pay a little more attention.
"What the heck are you talking about." sounds like you are whining.
"What the fuck are you talking about." shows that you want to be taken seriously.
That's my perspective. Just words, used without thinking.
What I do hate is 'ghetto' people that swear 10 times per sentence. That is just ridiculous.

Angie, you must consider a few things.
One, what is a swear-word, really? Another word for a swear-word is a curse. And what is a curse? A condemnation.
Now, when you say, "Darn it!", what are you implying? That the thing should be "darned" - a nice way of saying "damn", I suppose.
But, when you say "Damn it!" it's quite obvious what you're implying, that the thing should be damned, or condemned.
Either way, it has the same meaning. So why then is damn worse than darn? Who knows. I however think it goes back to the root of the words, Christianity. That's most likely where the words were determined to be profanity, and the "replacements" were determined. However, the "replacements" have taken on the same meaning as the original word. Which means they're swear words, and no better.
Go figure.

Gotta love how off topic this has gotten. But hey it's all good ;D Ok, about the whole Abercrombie + Hollister thing...I DESPISE ABERCROMBIE WITH A PASSION!!! Got that? Cause I'll say it again if you want. First of all, I think their "catalogs" are disgusting and like Scot said, I don't like what they stand for. Also, I'm getting sick of teens who have the attitude "If you don't wear Abercrombie, then I won't even bother talking to you..." (or something along those lines) I used to consider myself preppy but I'm shying away from that...I'm more of a Gadzooks, Hot Topic, Deb, etc kinda girl. I do like some of AE's stuff too (esp. graphic tees.) And I <3 thrift stores (w/ nice and clean clothing haha). They're rad. As for Hollister, I have to admit...I bought several things from that store in the past few years, BEFORE I knew it was owned by the Abercrombie company. Not only does it sicken me when I walk into Hollister and see teeny tiny skirts (which applies to the original purpose of this thread...) that are literally about ten inches long...but everything in there seems to be size zero...gag. That's all for now

Yes, I too have a real problem with Hollister and Abercrombie. I did know someone who wanted to work there, but, get this, they wouldnt hire her because she wasnt hot enough!!! She was too "overweight" (even tho I dont think she was at all, shes quite good looking for her build) They want to have ONLY good looking employees. That really turns me off. Also, as for the (slutty) girls, I think not only is their attire a product of media and peer pressure, but also it is the product of low self-esteem. I almost feel bad for girls who dont wear a whole lot of clothes, because basically what theyre saying is that their personality is too shallow/bad/horrible to attract guys, so they have to reduce themselves to a pretty low level. I think guys definately like girls who are confident enough to be fully dressed and be happy with who they are. (Although Im not a guy and I dont really know, guys talk about this stuff alot) Most of those girls are just used and passed around anyway (tho not all of them) and thats not a good way to live.

Though I now wouldn't buy anything from those stores, there was a time when I would. But whenever I went in, I got an uneasy feeling I can't really describe. I don't even like the atmosphere of those stores. Sorry I can't really explain it, but if you've been in those stores, you know what I'm talking about.

let me tell you why girls wear less clothes
they look good
we as men are ugly in nature but if we looked good wearing nothing at all... well that would be a different story.

I abhor the ideals that abercromie, etc, put in the heads of young women. That you need their close to be well liked. And I'm seeing younger and younger girls upholding these principles. These girl's ideas of themselves are being warped by corperate america. These companies are ruining the way girls look at themselves and how they expect others to see them (for more information read Reviving Ophelia). Girls are no longer happy with themselves. Now on the other hand if a girl knows who she is and is happy with who she is and dresses like a "slut" because she herself likes that look, more power to her. Designers make so many pretty clothes that only look good on girls up to a size 8. Now if i could fit these clothes and liked they way i looked in them i would so be one of these "slutty" girls. If i wore a size zero i would so show off that body too. But it is the girls that do stupid things to get that size zero that worry me ( thats why im a happy 180 lb size 12) Everyone has their own sense of style and their own sense of pretty. It's trite but I believe that the body is a beautiful thing (male or female, tall or short, fat or thin) and however you choose to display it is your business. Then again you're talking to a girl who is fascinated by tassels and would wear a sari to school as soon as i can find a place that sells them ;D

But would you really want guys looking at your body like that? I could probably get away with wearing some really revealing outfits, but I choose not to (I'm not trying to sound conceited. lol) I think that girls who DON'T dress "slutty" are awesome cause it shows that they respect their bodies and are self-confident enough that they don't have to expose a lot of skin just for attention. That's just my opinion It's trite but I believe that the body is a beautiful thing (male or female, tall or short, fat or thin)... It's good to hear someone say that.

I dont disagree with you in the least. More power to the girl who wears the turtle neck sweater (of which i own quite a few) I seriously dont care how others look at me (for instance today i went out with a dark gray zip-up fleece top, faded green sweat-type pants, garish red socks, and hair that hasnt been washed since yesterday morning (on top of that i went bra-less)) But tomorrow i might wear all black with a purple wrap and makeup and my sexy little red bra(not that that means anything) But all im saying is dress how you feel and dont judge others for the way they dress

More power to the girl who wears the turtle neck sweater I think more people need to realize that you can dress modestly yet with a stylish flair. Dressing modestly doesn't mean someone has to cover EVERYTHING by wearing a turtle neck, loose pants, etc. It doesn't mean someone has to be a goody goody either, but I definitely don't appreciate seeing the girls who wear super tight and low jeans with their stomach hanging out. gah. who wants to see that? Another alternative is for someone to balance what they wear. For instance, wearing a tightER shirt w/ somewhat baggy/loose-fitting pants OR wearing a looser shirt (maybe a tee) w/ tightER pants.
