I read something about this online in another forum.
The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Having said that, is this some kind of proof that we can't be destroyed?
If that's true then when we die, our energy doesn't suddenly disappear, it just changes form. Doesn't this kind of make re-incarnation seem feasible?

Good point, but the idea of reincarnation is not of energy of the normal plane. The idea is that there is a higher, or different plane of existance that the spirit, or whatever you wish to call it, stays there until it is "called" to be put into a new vessel. That vessel could be anything, from a tree stump, to a butterfly, to a human. Good thinking, but the law of conservation of energy isnt really applicable to this sort of thing ;D

Thankfully I wasn't the one that originated that thought. ;D Thanks for the reply. One thing that I was thinking though, is that if human beings really do have a soul, then that's some kind of energy. If it's true that energy could change shape or form then maybe it could be that you'd be reincarnated as another animal? Not as a plant though...I don't think that'd work

again you think that a soul would be of the sort of energy that we understand or comprehend. if there is such thing as a soul, i dont think that it would be of that type of energy. oh and the hindus believe you can come back as living thing

I think the energy conservation theory can be applied diversely depending on how you perceive our soul.

True, but we can't just assume that (should the soul exist) it's a certain type of energy. Whatever kind of energy it is it's probably a kind we haven't discovered yet...had we discovered it, we may be able to prove the soul's existence.

Conservation of Energy... hm. We should start a thread about what a soul actually is, or rather, what the different views of what a soul is, according to different people's beliefs. I shall do that right now.
